I’m not a regular Bible reader, but some passages stuck with me from my days as a Good Catholic. Like this one, Matthew 6:5-6:
5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.“
Mike Huckabee never read that part of the Bible, or else he read it and decided to ignore it, because he’s clearly one of those Christians who really wants you to see him being a Christian. Of course, that Christianity only really comes out when he’s talking about deeply important spiritual matters, like whether or not two consenting adults should be allowed to have their relationship legally sanctioned by the secular government. When it comes to people desperately fleeing for their lives, Governor Huckabee’s Christianity takes a back seat to his deeper commitment to the principle of “I got mine, fuck you”:
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, whose presidential campaign has become a crusade for “religious liberty” and the rights of the unborn, told social conservatives this weekend that they should be skeptical of allowing more Syrian refugees into the United States.
“Are they really escaping tyranny, are they escaping poverty, or are they really just coming because we’ve got cable TV?” Huckabee asked, in an audience question-and-answer session at the conservative Eagle Forum conference in St. Louis. “I don’t meant to be trite. I’m just saying: We don’t know.”
We just don’t know! Who’s to say why these people are fleeing a place that’s been at war for the past four years? Maybe they just want our cable TV!

What a dick.
Hey, thanks for reading! If you come here often, and you like what I do, would you please consider contributing something (sorry, that page is a work in progress) to keeping this place running and me out of debtor’s prison? Thank you!
Wow. I didn’t even know he said this, although Huckabee doesn’t strike me as remotely intelligent or tactful. This, however, is just a new low of idiocy. I can’t even deal with it.
