A sensible compromise

Here at ATTWIW, we’re all about bringing people together, healing the divides that, um, divide us, and finding common ground so that we can move forward as one nation. In that spirit, I propose the following sensible compromise: you can put the Confederate flag on your license plate if you want, and in return you voluntarily agree to undergo an intensive 12 month FBI investigation into your possible ties to organizations that seek to overthrow the United States government. Fair enough?

Actually part of me hopes the Confederates win this case, because for one thing, there is a case to be made that this is a legitimate free speech issue, and for another, the precedent it sets could open up massive vistas for deliberately offensive license plates, which could be fun. I’m not a lawyer, but I wonder if the Supremes will issue one of their special “we know this ruling is problematic so we’re going to explicitly deny that it sets a precedent even though that’s not how ‘precedent’ works” rulings.

  1. Sandra Day O’Connor cratered her reputation and crawled away from the smoking ruins by stating, in public, that she would prefer to have Bush name her replacement when she retired and then signing on to the toxic bit of judicial activism that Bush v Gore. She may or may not have done anything good or decent in her time on the bench, because all of that was erased in a stroke by the damage she inflicted on my beloved country.

So yeah, let the traitors fly their treason flag on the road hogs. Me, I’m moving to Plano to get my “Loyal Sons of the Union” state sponsored license plate and to use my right under Stand Your Ground to shoot any peckerwood who even thinks of vandalizing it.
