The UN has announced a week-long humanitarian ceasefire in Yemen that will run through next Friday, corresponding with the end of Ramadan. If it holds, this offers the possibility of some desperately needed assistance reaching the people of Yemen, who are obviously suffering tremendously as the civil war there continues with no end in sight. It’s probably too much to hope that the ceasefire could also offer some space for talks on a real settlement to the fighting, but there’s always that chance.
