Stunning news out of Egypt: Hosni Mubarak Gamal Abdel-Nasser Generalissimo Francisco Franco Field Marshal Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi is planning to run for the presidency:
Sisi is expected to secure a landslide victory in the presidential elections, having earned a cult status among many Egyptians.
Well, something tells me he’ll manage to secure a landslide victory regardless of whatever status he holds “among many Egyptians.” Michael Collins Dunn notes that it’s a little strange, but not really, that Sisi broke the news to a Kuwaiti newspaper first. It always pays to run your plans by the money guys before you let the little people know. At least Sisi is keeping it humble:
In Thursday’s edtion of the newspaper, Sisi said: “The decision has been made, and I have to succumb to the people’s demand of running for the republic’s presidency.”
That sentence is pretty much the summary of Newt Gingrich’s wildest dreams.
